Ducking punches, jabbing at an opponent, and jumping from corner to corner are great ways to stay fit. Boxing provides an ideal opportunity to stay in shape in an exciting way. Finding perfect boxing gyms, however, may prove challenging. Before settling on one gym, every boxer should consider a few factors.

Local boxing gyms must be found before they can be compared. To locate boxing gyms, anyone could search the yellow pages or a website such as Gymticket.com. Inquiring at local exercise gyms is an even better option, since employees at these places can probably provide more detailed information about boxing-specific gyms. After finding a few local boxing gyms, the first factor to consider is equipment. Memberships at boxing gyms with updated, modern equipment will probably cost more. However, basic equipment is usually satisfactory for novices and intermediate boxers.

Equipment to inspect at local boxing gyms includes the ring, punching bags and mirrors. Mirrors aid in monitoring and improving technique. Ample space is also necessary for warm-ups and exercise, such as jumping rope. Other equipment also needs to be purchased before boxing can begin. Some boxing gyms may feature a shop to purchase these items, including hand wrap, trunks, a mouthpiece and gloves.

After comparing the equipment at various boxing gyms, the next thing to consider is the atmosphere. Taking a trip to the gym on a normal day and observing current members is an excellent idea. If the boxers seem energized, excited and are working hard, chances are they enjoy the gym. A gym's atmosphere could be improved by little things too, such as playing up-tempo music. Also, take note of the staff. If they seem engaged in their work rather than waiting for their shift to end, chances are they will provide more help to members.

Hours of operation must also be compared. Even the most updated and professional of boxing gyms will not work if not open at opportune times. Trainer availability is also important. Trainers help to improve technique and form, allowing boxers to perform at their top potentials. Boxing gyms with many trainers and long hours are best for boxers with rigid schedules and skills that need improvement.
Price needs to be contemplated as well. Most boxing gyms charge membership fees. More updated gyms with multiple trainers tend to cost more, but these are not always the best. Sometimes, cheaper boxing gyms provide a more intimate experience and draw boxers who are truly interested and excited about the sport.

Unfortunately, finding a local boxing gym is sometimes simply impossible. People living in large cities have a better chance of locating boxing gyms, but those in more rural areas are probably out of luck. Personal trainers are always a possibility, but they can be quite expensive. The average price for a quality boxing trainer is $60 per hour, but can be as low as $15 an hour. To off-set this cost, boxers can work with their personal trainers once a week and exercise at a local gym the rest of the time.

Rather than running on a treadmill or circling the same track repeatedly, anyone who wants to stay in shape might try boxing. People can box by themselves, but a more popular option is to join a boxing gym. When working out at a boxing gym, people can enjoy an energizing atmosphere with their fellow boxers.
